 How to handle safely linen in hospital
There are a lot of potential sources of microbiological contamination in hospitals, nursing homes, as bacterias are easily spread unless very strict controls are in place. The recent SARS epidemic only stresses the importance of having a well-planned laundry process with a rigorous monitoring of this process. Danube is using the RABC standard for controlling the quality of the linen processed.

Since 1984 DANUBE Barrier design (pass-through) washing machine is claimed to reduce the risk of spreading nosocomial infections (hospital-acquired infections) during laundering.

Optimal sanitation is ensured by a dual door design separated by a sanitized partition. Desinfected laundry never comes in contact with soiled contaminated laundry.

We estimate that 16 to 18% of nosocomial infections, (hospital-acquired infections), are due to a poor hygien in laundering.

The ASEP 2000 is a PHYSICAL BARRIER CONCEPT therefore when designing your laundry, you will have to consider also :

  • PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL CONCEPT (should be of a sufficient magnitude and stable to prevent reversal of air flow)
  • DYNAMIC BARRIER SYSTEM (flow of air from clean to less clean)
    On the other hand it will be necessary to monitor and keep record of particles and microorganisms (bacterias-fungis, algaes, viruses) which might br found in the laundry room (clean side) or in the linen.
    Choice of fabric used for the garments weared by the laundry operators is an important point too, the fabric should filter the contamination dispersed from the skin of the operators.

Regarding partition walls, they should have a smooth finish, be air and water tight, and if possible, they should have antifugal and antibacterial properties.
